A Look Inside LEDC’s Newcastle Edge Data Centre

We are very proud to announce the opening of our Flagship site in Newcastle, which is exactly the same model as all of our 75-rack facilities. We provide a highly secure, Tier III designed facility, built to withstand the harsh Australian climate.

Security is our Top Priority

Part of ensuring service effectiveness means that we rely on world-leading security practices across all sites. Security begins with physical on premise systems. The centres have a hybrid combination of key remote and physical security measures to ensure total coverage. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Fencing around the entirety of the site.

  • Over 40 different cameras with built-in AI technology to carry out facial and number plate recognition before even entering the site, helping teams to know how many people are in each site at any given time and the exact whereabouts of their presence.

  • Remote monitoring, using Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ platform to maintain and prevent downtime site-wide.

  • Two-step authentication to access racks, comprising phone systems and facial recognition, with access only granted to racks that team members are directly responsible for.

  • Deploying an edge point operation centre (EPOC) to help with real-time monitoring networks, ensuring 24/7 visibility and accessibility.

Putting our Customers First

Leading Edge Data Centres approach every customer with the same mentality of collaborative problem solving to offer effective, flexible and resilient solutions through its edge computing products and services. The team breaks down three key benefits to customers that demonstrate leadership, effectiveness and innovation, across all sites. These comprise:

1)      Accessibility and choice = By providing greater choice of direct cloud access, customers can enjoy faster connectivity through the network of edge data centres across regional Australia in a diverse ecosystem from global and local providers.

2)      Stability and reliability = Secure, Tier III certified edge data centres are built to withstand even the toughest of extreme Australian weather conditions, providing redundancy and fault tolerance in power outage protection.

3)      Benefits to regional Australia = Measurable benefits to the local and national customers of Leading Edge include low latency connectivity, competitive hosting and connectivity options from new age edge computing capabilities, helping develop IoT and smart cities across Australia through innovative growth infrastructures.
